About Dissens
Dissens e.V. is a non-profit NGO which was founded in 1989 and offers advisory, education and research services.
The aim of the organisation is to foster gender democracy, reduce gender hierarchies (especially in employment) and to help prevent men from committing violent acts. The association is increasingly concentrating on European pilot projects within the framework of its areas of work and on integration into European networks.
In the area of Gender-Specific Educational Work Dissens e.V. carries out political adult and youth training, and organises further education events, as well as providing practical advice for social establishments and projects. These are carried out by institutions for political education.
In the field of youth work, boys and male youths are cared for in open work, supervised forms of living, social groupwork and international youth exchanges.
A European pilot project for the prevention of violence by men and male youths is currently being developed with partners in the Czech Republic and Austria.
The international, in particular European, expertise which Dissens e.V. has developed in the last few years is passed on to other regional NGOs through an advisory office for developing and acquiring finance for EU projects.
Dissens e.V. cooperates with the three Berlin universities. The work done by Dissens e.V. is integrated locally in the implementation of gender mainstreaming concepts and in violence prevention work with men and male youths. National and international integration occurs through the German Men's Studies Taskgroup and in the International Association for the Studies on Men (IASOM).
