International 4-day event: Women & Men in Dialogue
An Experiential Course for Trainers Dealing with Gender Issues
We would like to invite you to join this fully funded 4 day International course which has been developed in the Dialogue between the genders project by a team of experienced trainers from Spain, Germany, United Kingdom and Poland. This project in funded by the European Commission in the Sokrates Programme Grundtvig 1.
Course dates
- Barcelona (Spain): 11 - 14 June 2007
- Berlin (Germany): 11 - 14 September 2007
- Totnes (England): 2008
- Lodz (Poland): 2008
The course is aimed at adult trainers, social, health and community workers as well as other managers or supervisors. It is fully funded by the EU under the Socrates-Grundtvig3 scheme.
Course objectives
- to improve the quality of your training in dealing with gender issues at work with your learners and service users;
- to exxplore gender issues, specifically male and female identities and roles;
- to support and empower you to follow and reflect on your own process;
- help you to find the most appropriate tools for you to make the genuine and sustainable changes that you want for yourself, as a professional and as a unique individual.
Application procedure
A pre-phase of the course will give you an opportunity to get more acquainted with the topic and to get a sense of what the course is about. Tutors will make contact with you (by email and telephone) to talk about your expectations and interests on this training. They will ask you to reflect on texts and scenarios portraying some gender issues from work and domestic life. This is about 3 hours elearning approximately 2 months before the course.
For the Barcelona Course, 11 - 14 June 2007, you have to apply to the local coordinator by 10 March 2007, and to your Socrates National Agency by 1 June.
For the Berlin course, 11 - 14 September 2007, you have to apply the the local coordinator by 10 June 2007, and to your Socrates National Agency by 1 July.
Methodology
The time will be mostly spent in experiential reflective learning (sometimes in small subgroups), jointly facilitated by a team composed of a woman and a man. The first and fourth days will be seminars in mixed gender groups. The second and third days are in homogeneous men's and women's groups which support deeper inquiry.
We support participants by establishing a safe, non-judgemental learning community to explore gender related conflicts and to place them into broader contexts.
Participants are empowered to explore their own process for learning, developing awareness of other internal processes that block learning and communication.
We propose creative experiments and exercises for participants:
- to explore male and female communication, conflicts, identities and roles;
- to develop sensitivity to their own deeper defence mechanisms and learning potential, through movement and body-work;
- to strengthen their personal, emotional and creative approaches to difficult or conflictive situations;
- to develop a personal "Action Plan" to help them address difficult gender issues in their work and
- personal lives. We work to ensure that this plan is meaningful, realistic and sustainable for each
- person.
