Social groupwork
A course specifically for boys.
What is social groupwork?
- Social groupwork aims to support children and young people in overcoming difficulties in their development and behaviour.
- Social groupwork represents a meaningful step in the development of a stable and confident personality.
- Social groupwork helps with the integration into a community and leads to a better understanding of oneself and others.
Courses are tailored individually to each specific group. With this approach we aim to foster the development of the children and young people through social learning within the group.
Focal points
- Solving problems by working together, not against each other.
- Gaining confidence and learning tolerance.
- Finding a balance between consideration for other and getting one's legitimate needs met.
- Learning together and learning from each other.
- Feeling comfortable within the group and having fun.
When is participation in social groupwork useful?
- When a boy tends solve problems with others by physical means.
- ...or if he thinks that shouting loudest makes him right!
- When he tries to get his way without consideration of others and believes that his judgement is the only valid one.
Also when a boy...
- timidly avoids conflicts;
- finds it difficult to approach others;
- is not confident enough.
Age groups
Boys should be between 10 and 17 years of age. They should join the groupwork voluntarily.
Registration
Boys can be registered through the youth welfare department as part of a governmental support program.
